Reidy Creek Physical Education Teacher Simon Vieaux receives a large check from the American Heart Association. El profesor de educación física de Reidy Creek, Simon Vieaux, recibe un gran cheque de la Asociación Estadounidense del Corazón.

We’re thrilled to share that our very own PE teacher, Mr. Simon Vieaux, has been recognized by the American Heart Association with a Health and Wellness Grant of $2,135! He is one of only two recipients in the entire state of California, what an incredible honor!

The award was celebrated in true Reidy Creek fashion during their Friday Flag Assembly, where Mr. Vieaux was presented with a giant check (a big hit with the kids!). This grant will help support health and wellness initiatives for our students. We can’t wait to see the positive impact it will bring to our school community.

Congratulations, Mr. Vieaux!

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.

Back-to-school nights:

Back-to-school nights are underway around the district. For event times and dates, be sure to check your school’s website or look for a reminder in Rooms on the EUSD mobile app.

Attendance is meaningful:

Every day counts when it comes to student success! September is recognized as Attendance Awareness Month, and we appreciate your support and encouragement for consistent student attendance. Every student is a valued member of our school community. Daily and on-time school attendance not only helps support our students' connection to school and learning, it is a key indicator of future success. Absences are understandable when a student is sick. However, missing 10 percent or just two days a month can cause a child to fall behind academically or feel disconnected from school. When students miss school, they are missed by their classmates and the caring adults on campus. Our district has numerous resources to support families. Please do not hesitate to contact your school site if you are experiencing any challenges with your child's daily school attendance.

Absence notifications:

In order to create a more uniform notification process for attendance, families of students in TK through 8th grade will receive automated phone calls at 10:15 a.m. on days when their student is absent from school.

Student Insurance:

In past years, EUSD has provided families with the opportunity to purchase voluntary student insurance. This year, the Board of Education approved the purchase of insurance to cover all students, adult volunteers, and non-enrolled youth in school-sponsored events for school-related injuries. This blanket accident insurance covers medical, ambulance, ER expenses, as well as other charges associated with an injury or accident. Brochures outlining this coverage have been emailed to families.

Student Registration: EXPLORE Classes

EXPLORE After School! EUSD is proud to offer a wide variety of FREE after school enrichment and intervention classes, called EXPLORE classes, at all in person schools. Our goal is to give children opportunities to learn, create, and grow beyond the school day while helping them EXPLORE their unlimited potential. From sports like flag rugby, soccer, skateboarding, and cheerleading, to creative experiences in theatre, music, and dance, to hands-on STEM adventures, there truly is something for everyone. Classes are taught by both EUSD teachers and community vendors, bringing students a mix of familiar faces and new experts to learn from. Each school has its own menu of classes. Families should have received an Interest Form through flyers, emails, or text messages. If you have questions or need another copy, just check in with your school office and they will be happy to help. Classes begin on September 15th!

Foundation Fundraiser

Join the Escondido Education Foundation for an afternoon of fashion and fun at an upcoming fundraising event! “Height of Fashion” is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, at Trinity Episcopal Church in the Old Escondido neighborhood. Get all the details and purchase tickets online. Tickets are $60 or $100 for a pair; delicious food and drinks are included. The all-volunteer Escondido Education Foundation spends countless hours supporting the innovative learning happening in our schools, particularly through the annual Dr. Mike Caston Innovation Awards. Fundraisers such as “Height of Fashion” help make these generous grant awards possible!
