On Wednesday, April 29, all 5 middle schools and Quantum Academy faced off at Rincon Middle School to determine the top gamers in EUSD. Coaches should be proud of the great sportsmanship displayed. The success of this event was a result of an incredible effort by our IT department to include our MC Shiloh Lewis, Sean Seever, Kevin Abreu, Stacey Weinberg, the EXPLORE team, and our Esports Teachers/Coaches.

In addition, 9 students were recognized as being the top EGL Academy users in EUSD, having earned the most points for their achievement in learning about careers in the gaming industry.

Celebrating Creativity: 2026 smART Festival success
We are proud to celebrate another successful year of the smART Festival, a beloved annual tradition that showcases the incredible talent across all 24 EUSD schools. This event continues to offer our students a truly unique opportunity to engage with the arts at a professional level at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Our student artists saw their work displayed within a world-class art museum alongside professional exhibitions, while our performing arts groups took the stage in the prestigious Center Theater. Performing and exhibiting in these professional venues is a hallmark of the EUSD experience, giving our students an authentic platform to share their hard work with the community.
We are honored to continue our longstanding partnership with the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, to bring this event to our families. Thank you to the educators, parents, community members, and community-based organizations who join us every year to celebrate the vital role the arts play in our students' lives.
Here are this week’s updates and reminders.
We Are All Connected
Inspired by a news presentation on the reopening of a school following a tragic act of violence, Quantum Academy middle school students engaged in a thoughtful conversation about how incidents in our communities, whether near or far, impact the safety and well-being of young people. More recently, our own community experienced a reminder of the importance of vigilance and care when nearby schools implemented secure campus procedures during a mountain lion sighting. Moments like these reinforce for students that safety is not something to take for granted, and that we are all responsible for looking out for one another.
Motivated by a desire to raise awareness while fostering connection, empathy, and compassion, Quantum students collaborated with peers from five communities across the United States, California, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Texas, to create a shared piece of art titled We Are All Connected. Participating students ranged from Transitional Kindergarten through 10th grade, reflecting a powerful cross-age and cross-community effort.
We are deeply grateful to the schools that joined us in this meaningful project, and to Art with Jenny K for generously sharing her copyrighted work so that multiple schools could take part in this collective expression of unity, safety, and care.
California Day of the Teacher:
California Day of the Teacher was established in 1982 through legislation co-sponsored by the California Teachers Association and the Association of Mexican American Educators. It’s a meaningful reminder to recognize the impact teachers have on our students and our community. I continue to be inspired by the educators across our district. In every classroom I visit, I see a deep commitment to students and a genuine care for helping each learner grow. That work makes a difference every single day. I encourage you to take a moment to thank a teacher who has made an impact in your child’s life. A quick note, a kind word, or a simple expression of appreciation goes a long way—and truly matters.
